On 11th of December the second year of high school students got to see a musical during their English class.
This musical was about the importance of learning languages and how difficult it can be to survive in another country without it. The musical showed the struggle of going abroad and not managing with only Spanish. It can be broadened to any language. As an example from a personal point of view I can also relate with this topic, because I am living in a foreign country as a volunteer without speaking the language fluently.Due to that, I can relate to the problems the main character was facing.

In my opinion this musical also wanted to spread the message to believe in oneself. Furthermore, it showed the importance of not giving up when things get hard, to keep pushing through when it seems like nothing is working out the way wanted.

This musical encouraged to come out of one’s comfort zone and do something different. By doing this people learn a lot about themselves and about life. It also showed the hardship of loneliness at the beginning of living in a new environment totally alone and how to cope with it. In the end they also emphasized the importance of love.

Some questions answered from the cast after the show:
1) How did you come up with this idea to do this kind of musical?
«This idea came from my friend’s father. He told us that there was a big musical on this topic with a lot of musicians and actors, so our idea was to create a similar thing, but on a smaller scale with fewer actors and musicians and then bring it to schools.»
2) Do you think nowadays, living in a globalizing society, youngsters have understood the importance of learning languages?
«English is one of the most important languages in the world or at least one of the most popular ones, so when travelling around, English is really needed. So yes, as nowadays it is possible to travel more, the younger generation has understood the importance of learning languages, especially English.»
3) What do you think are the biggest struggles for youngsters to learn English? In your opinion, what is stopping them?
«I think the main problem is that people are afraid to speak, and it is not because of the lack of vocabulary, but because they don’t have the courage to speak and make mistakes. So students should have more opportunities to speak in classes, so they wouldn’t be afraid of speaking and starting conversations in a forein country.»
