Environmentally friendy school

In the year 20/21 we worked quite a lot on environmental topics in I.E.S Pablo Picasso. In this post we will share some things that we have done.

A study on environemtal topics was conducted by 2020/21 ESC volunteers. The aim of this survey was to get an overview of I.E.S Pablo Picasso students everyday habits and routines on environmental topics. The survey was divided into 4 categories: nature, energy (electricity, transport, water), waste (plastic, recycling, consumption) and awareness.

Here are shown some main results that were found:

Here are written actions to take from next school year to become a more environmentally friendly school.

EXHIBITION OF ACTS OF GREEN ON EARTH DAY

  • Earth Day is held every year on the 22 of April.
  • It is celebrated to increase awareness in environmental protection.
  • This year’s Earth Day theme was “Restore Our Earth.”

For this day students made posters of their acts of green, here are some of them:

Also in English workshops the students drawed and colored pictures, which were later put up on the wall:

From the posters our volunteer Ana made a video which was showed in the school lobby on the International Environment Day.

The video can be found here: https://youtu.be/kr3CDZaF4Hw

From the Environment survey there was also an open question, asking the students «What can I do in 2021 to be envirnmentally friendly». Their responses are shown on the following photo:

This year the students to the opportunity to get involved in the school garden. Several classes got work on preparing the soil, planting, watering the vegetables. It seemed like the students enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the garden and getting their hands dirty in the soil.

We also worked in the school garden, planting some trees with one English teacher.

In the environment survey there was also a question «What does nature mean to you» here are showed some of the answers that the students said:

Freedom, Peace, Happiness and relaxing
– Nature is happiness, nature gives you a huge feeling of peace.
– When I go running to the beach, for example, I feel free and relaxed.
– Freedom, happiness, I’d like to go more and ride a bike on the mountain or the beachIt’s beautiful, and I feel so relaxed when I’m in nature.
– It’s a relaxing and reflection time for me
– Peace, time for thinking, relax
– Nature for me means being free
Spending time outdoors, away from daily routine
– Nature means free time, outdoors, clean air, freedom
– For me, spending time in nature is a way of relaxing and disconnecting from my routine.
– Disconnecting from everyday life and connecting with the earth
– For me, nature means life.
– It’s a place where we can relax and forget about our problems.
Mother Earth
– For me, they are the roots of the human being, and also a path to join all the world’s animal and vegetable species.
– The way I see it, it means some places that produce satisfaction, joy or calm inside oneself, too.
– It means something essential for us, but it’s fragile.
– For me, nature represents a symbol of life.
– The mountain, the beach, the animals and the silence.
